Michelle Brown received a BA in English Literature with minors in Education and Environmental Science in 2003 from Northeastern University in Boston. After a year of teaching English in Turkey as a Fulbright Scholar, she attended the University of Texas at Austin for a M.Ed. in Science Education. During her graduate degree, Michelle worked as a teaching assistant for the UTeach program and has been connected to the program ever since.
While teaching 6th - 8th grade science at a public middle school in Austin, TX, Michelle hosted Step 1 & 2 UTeach students as well as a student teacher. In 2012 she relocated to Brooklyn, New York and taught 9th grade Earth Science at a charter school. She also worked with new teachers as a math and science instructional coach. She currently lives in State College, PA with her husband and daughter. She is passionate about helping science teachers navigate their profession and connecting students to polar science. In early November Michelle returned to Antarctica for a second time with a research team and is reporting back the science to schools across the country through PolarTREC.
